Jesus Is: The Center of Our Chaos and Faith

Reflecting on today’s sermon, I am reminded of the profound truth that Jesus is the very image of the invisible God—He is the one who holds all things together. As I prepared to share this message, I was struck by how easy it is for us to picture God in human terms—perhaps as a wise old man on a distant throne, or a kindly grandfather figure. But Paul’s words in Colossians 1:15-20 challenge us to see Jesus for who He truly is: the Creator, the Redeemer, and the one who embodies the fullness of God Himself.

When we truly see Jesus through faith, Scripture, and His life, death, and resurrection, we see God. This is not just a theological idea but a life-changing reality. It reminds me that Jesus isn’t distant or removed from our daily lives; He is Emmanuel—God with us—holding everything together, including each of us. The hymn Paul quotes in this passage beautifully captures this truth, emphasizing Jesus’ supremacy over all creation and His sufficiency to reconcile everything to Himself.

In a world that constantly pulls us in different directions—whether through schedules, responsibilities, or personal struggles—it’s easy to forget that Jesus is the one who truly holds it all together. I shared during the sermon how my recent trip reminded me of how hurried and rushed life can be, but in the midst of that chaos, we are invited to fix our eyes on Jesus, the one who has authority over heaven and earth. His supremacy isn’t just a lofty idea; it’s the foundation of our faith and the source of our peace.

What struck me most today is Paul’s personal invitation to each of us: “You who were once far off... you are now holy and blameless, without a single fault”. No matter how many faults we see in ourselves, Jesus, through His sacrifice, makes us holy and blameless before God. That’s a gift we receive by faith and humility, not by effort or self-improvement. We are called to stand firm in this truth, to keep coming back to it, especially when life tries to pull us away.

As we approached the Lord’s Table today, I was reminded that Jesus invites us not because we’ve earned it, but because He is enough. His blood shed on the cross is sufficient to reconcile us fully to God. We come in faith, trusting in His grace, and trusting that He holds us in His loving hands. It’s a humbling and awe-inspiring truth—that the Creator of all things, who holds the universe together, also holds each of us.

So, I encourage you today to picture Jesus not as a distant figure from a painting, but as the living Savior who is near, holding you in His love. Let that shape how you see God and how you live out your faith every day. Remember, Jesus is Lord of all—over creation, over your life, and over your heart. And because of that, we can stand confidently before God, holy and blameless, because of His grace and sacrifice.

Let’s continue to trust in His supremacy and sufficiency, and may His peace guard our hearts as we go forth, rooted in the truth that Jesus holds all things together.
